Inspired by the shadows she observed in the earth, the artist spent many months perfecting a technique that allows objects to be represented with two dimensions onto canvas. Instead, the object is transformed into a representation of the subject, where the surface is the vehicle for its individual interpretation of the subject, particularly in the case of alive or perishable for example, like humans or fruits. The ephemeral nature of her art style is apparent and what remains of Alexa Meade's work is the photograph. Trompe l'oeil can be achieved through the combination of two methods of photographing and painting. It creates a flattened, two dimensional photograph. Meade will sometimes integrate her model in the surrounding three-dimensional environment that allows them to interact within the world of their own. By doing so, Meade is able to blur the lines between painting, photography and the performance.
